Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Engagement Award
Deadlines for nominations for the 2010 regional award: Friday, January 8, 2010
The Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Award is a regional award that recognizes outstanding outreach and engagement activities. MSU nominations (including self nominations) for this award are encouraged. The two finalists will be submitted by President Lou Anna K. Simon and Provost Kim A. Wilcox.
Five regional winners will be announced at the National Outreach Scholarship Conference in September, 2010. Winners receive $6,000 and are considered for the national C. Peter Magrath University / Community Engagement Award (see below).
Timeline
- Deadline for submitting MSU nomination form and abstract:
- Friday, January 8, 2010
- MSU nominees will be notified by:
- Tuesday, February 2, 2010
- If selected, full application deadline:
- Monday, March 8, 2010
- Regional winners will be announced:
- Friday, April 16, 2010
- National award winner announced:
- Sunday, November 14, 2010
Guidelines
To apply, submit a 500-word abstract that summarizes the engagement partnership. MSU emphasizes university-community partnerships that are collaborative, participatory, empowering, systemic, and transformative, and anchored in scholarship.
Include the following in your abstract:
- Impact: Two or three statements that summarize what was accomplished.
- Significance: Answer the question: "What difference did this project make?"
- Context: Answer the question: "How did this project meet the needs of the stakeholder(s)?"
- Scholarship: Answer the question: "Describe how the findings will be used."
Photos that help tell the story are also encouraged, and should be included in the application.

If selected as one of the two Michigan State University's nominees for the regional award, you will be asked to complete the full application by March 8, 2010 for submission to NASULGC.
C. Peter Magrath University / Community Engagement Award
The C. Peter Magrath University / Community Engagement Award is a national award that recognizes outstanding outreach and engagement partnerships between universities and community partners. It is presented by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC) at the annual meeting in November. National award winners receive $20,000.
